Rave Review : Rimmel Apocalips Luna and Galaxy!

I'm just going to start off this post by doing a little dance!! They're finally mine!! I've seriously been wanting to get my hands on some of the Rimmel Apocalips since they first debuted over in the UK. Maybe it's because they looked absolutely amazeballs, but I think it was mostly because of their name, Apocalips. I have an unhealthy obsession with all things apocalyptic, so these had to be mine! I placed an order off ASOS when I found out they were back in stock after reading a review on Eliza's blog. After a debacle involving the website telling me my order wasn't placed, soon finding out 2 orders had been placed, and a few too many emails to try and get a refund, my order(s) were on their way to me. I was originally going to wait till I got to England to buy these, and they were going to be the first thing I purchased (seriously!!) but they worked out to be cheaper off ASOS than if I had bought them at Boots. That's how I'm justifying the purchase anyway. These arrived yesterday morning and I was so excited I may have forgotten to put mascara on!

SO, enough of my blubbering, on to the review. I love these! They are exactly what I was hoping for, and more. They're so creamy and opaque, and nothing like a lipgloss except for the fact it's liquid. So liquid in fact that when I took the applicator wand out of the tube yesterday, a little drop of product fell to the floor. It's definitely more like a lipstick. I'm really not sure what everyone's problem is with the smell, maybe they're getting bad batches because I actually like the smell. Maybe it's because I'm used to buying drugstore products so I don't know any better? I think they smell a little bit like watermelon.  They go on fairly glossy but dry kind of matte, and they're really not as drying as I expected. I have pretty dry lips to begin with and I didn't find these accentuated dry areas at all, even Luna the light shade. They certainly weren't hydrating, but they didn't dry my lips out.
Luna is a really pretty coral based nude. It's absolutely work appropriate. I got this shade on a whim. I found it really hard to choose a second colour to get, but after looking at swatches, I knew I needed this one. It reminds me of a nude version of Australis' Honky Tonk.

Galaxy is the colour I was most excited about. I haven't got any dark lip colours but I knew I needed one for Autumn. The colour is perfect! It's not too dark to be scary looking. It's a more pink toned purple, which makes it easy to wear. In the tube it looks like there's a shimmer to it, but it really doesn't translate to the lips. I know I'll be getting a lot of wear out of Galaxy this year (I get 2 autumns!).

Downsides? Ok, the staying power of these is pretty dreadful. I wore Luna during work yesterday, I only wore it for about 2 hours before having to re apply. I may have not really have had to apply it that much, it could have been just that I wanted to reapply it because it was a new exciting product, but I'm not impressed with how long it lasted. Galaxy lasted better, and would probably stay about 3-4 hours without having to reapply. Neither would last through a meal. However, these are so easy to apply that it's not even a hassle to reapply. I also haven't found that these stain your lips, which wouldn't bother me either way.

Luna (l) and Galaxy (r)

I will definitely be getting more of these, with Celestial and Nova at the top of my wish list. I might wait till I get to England to buy those though.

Have you tried Rimmel Apocalips yet? Do you think they are worth the hype?

  1. Ahhh this was such a pleasure to read! These look so darn exciting, though I really do need to exercise a bit of self discipline with lip products because my stash is getting a little bit out of control! :)

    1. These are definitely worth adding to your lip products collection. Hopefully they come out in Australia soon so you could wait till then, although they'll most likely be way overpriced.

  2. They look awesome! Really want to get my hands on at least one of them :)
I hope they're not too expensive when they come to Australia (if they ever do)

    1. I've looked on Rimmel's facebook page and it looks like they are going to release them in Australia, god knows when though! Try get them off ASOS though, they're super cheap at the moment!

  3. Oh they look nice! Have you tried OCC lip tars? I wonder how they compare to that

    1. I haven't got a lip tar yet unfortunately! The Lip Tars are probably more pigmented and I think would probably last a lot longer than these, but these seem a lot easier to apply because you don't need a lip brush, and they're cheaper too!

  6. Thanks for the link sailor-klerr! So pleased you like them- they both look lovely on you. My Luna just arrived too- so I now have three. I have some OCC lip tars and I would agree with your predictions. These apocolips are much easier to apply, but do not last as long. I would say these are slightly more glossy than the OCC lip tars. I prefer these only due to ease of application-and they are much cheaper.

    1. No problems, and thanks! Good to know about the lip tars, I'm not sure I need to get them now, I might just get more of these.

  7. Great review! It's a shame the lasting power wasn't the best. I'm thinking of placing an order right now, since Celestial came back in stock, it's currently being reserved in my shopping bag..hehe.

    1. The lasting power is really the only downside, but they are so nice to reapply I don't find it's a real issue. Celestial is the next colour I plan on buying!
